Christmas Craft Gift Round Up!
Day 4:
Boys to Men: Gifts for Guys!Gifts that would be appropriate for anyone, depending on their individual tastes!
The sweet and adorable loudlily recently contacted me with a question: there are tons of crafts and DIYs for the ladies, but what about for guys? Well I’ve traweld the internets to try and find the easiest, cheapest, most interesting and coolest DIY gifts for the boys. Hope y’all find something here for your Dad, Brother, Uncle, Grandpa…er… Nephew, Cousin, etc!Blah, blah, sexist, heteronormative bullshit. Onto the crafts!Industrial Record Cabinet | A Beautiful Mess
Boysyoung and old who have records would love this record cabinet - a great place to keep your records all together along with your record player. Plus it’s on wheels - easy to roll from room to room.Graphic Art | Curbly
If [they’re] starting to grow out of [their] old torn up posters, try making [them] a couple of graphic canvases for [their] room. Use [their] sports number or initial of [their] name to make it more personalDIY Antlers | Design Dump
Real antlers: ew. Mod, fake antlers: Cool!Leather Wallet | Poppytalk
Encourage [them] to chuck out that old tacky velcro wallet and make [them] this very sophisticated leather one. This is meant to be a passport holder, but will fit bills nicely too.Lego Skull | Skull A Day
Be the coolestAunty/Cousinwhen you gift them their very own Lego skull! This is so awesome - and of course you could make it in any colour.Magnetic Map Board | Apartment Therapy
Perfect for the traveller - a great place to pin up your travel pics. Of course, you could cover it in whatever takes their fancy - a beach for the surfer type, license plates for the car enthusiast. I’d personally love a vintage map one!
Soooo….here’s an example of when it is appropriate to neutralize someone else’s gendered terms. Despite what OP seems to think, there’s nothing inherently manly or masculine about record cabinets, maps, and kitschy cardboard deer heads.
More Parks & Recreation stuff on Etsy:
1. “Ovaries before brovaries” pins (the same shop sells “uteruses for duderuses” pins too) 2. Ron Swanson “Bully” lino cut print 3. Knope 2012 campaign button 4. Punk-ass book jockey library card 5. “You had me at meat tornado” baby onesie
I set myself a small Halloween costume challenge: costumes that are cute, comfortable, relatively easy to make, and not tiresomely sexy, offensive, or examples of cultural appropriation.
There are lots more, but these are my favorites:
1) Bird wings 2) Jellyfish 3) Bat 4) Mary Poppins 5) Morton’s Salt girl 6) Doctor Who “Blink” angel 7) Lichtenstein painting 8) Medusa
I didn’t know this, but penguin sweaters actually serve a purpose by preventing penguins that have been in oil spills from preening and ingesting toxic oil.
ETA: The knitting pattern, which could probably be adapted to fit other cute creatures.
LED tea lights + masks = easy, eerie Halloween decor
